The Kansas City Chiefs have been one of the most dominant teams in the NFL over the last few years, and they will have a chance to add yet another Lombardi Trophy to their collection in 2023 when they face the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl LVII. The Chiefs have been one of the most successful teams in the league since they drafted quarterback Patrick Mahomes in 2017. Mahomes has been nothing short of sensational in his short time in the NFL, winning two MVP awards and leading the Chiefs to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances. With Mahomes at the helm, the Chiefs have become one of the most feared teams in the league as they were poised to make a deep run in the playoffs in 2023.
The Eagles, on the other hand, have been one of the most inconsistent teams in the league in recent years. Since their Super Bowl victory in 2018, with Nick Foles at the QB position, the Eagles have been searching for their identity. With weapons like Devonta Smith and A.J. Brown, Jalen Hurts has all the power to control the Philly offense through the air. Patrick Mahomes and the KC offense are full of surprises. There’s considerable power in the run game, weapons through the air, and most of all, the trickery from Mahomes himself who’s done some unorthodox things to win games on multiple occasions. Never count these guys out. The Chiefs are looking for their third Super Bowl win in four years, while the Eagles are hoping to make their first Super Bowl appearance since their win in 2018. Both teams have the potential to perform and succeed, and the matchup is sure to be an exciting one. No matter who wins, one thing is for sure: The matchup between the Chiefs and the Eagles will be one of the most anticipated and exciting games of the season, even if it seems lackluster.
Patrick Mahomes did the most to propel the Chiefs into win-now status this season. Thus far, Mahomes has led the Chiefs to a 14-3 record, the AFC Championship, and a Super Bowl berth. He threw for 5,250 yards and 41 touchdowns while completing 67.1% of his passes. He also ran for over 358 yards and added four touchdowns on the ground. Travis Kelce, Mahomes’ primary target will be a significant threat for the Philly defense to handle. Mahomes is looking to win either the AP Offensive Player of the Year award, MVP award or both. Considering his creative playing style, ability to show grit and determination, and his true will to win, he’s a prominent candidate for both of these awards.
Jalen Hurts had a breakout year in 2022, setting career highs in passing yards (3,701) and passing touchdowns (22). He also added 760 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground, leading the team to a standing 14-3 record and the NFC East title. We’ve already mentioned Hurts’ weapons on offense, and he’ll be sure to utilize all of them to beat the Chiefs. Similar to Mahomes, Hurts has also been nominated for the AP Offensive Player of the Year award and the MVP. The Birds have been a threat all year, and every team they’ve played has had their number. No matter where you stand, battling injuries and facing adversity has been key for both of these teams to qualify for the final test.
